Illinois Receives "A-" in Annual Report on Transparency of Government Spending

Illinois received an “A-” when it comes to government spending transparency, according to “Following the Money 2015: How the 50 States Rate in Providing Online Access to Government Spending Data,” the sixth annual report of its kind by the Illinois Public Interest Research Group Education Fund. Illinois' grade improved since last year, jumping from a B+ to this year's A-.

McDonald’s Announces Plan to Cut Overuse of Antibiotics in Chicken

McDonald’s announced a new policy today to curb the overuse of antibiotics in raising the chickens that ultimately become McNuggets or other McDonald’s products.  Within two years, farming operations supplying McDonald’s USA restaurants will not be allowed to routinely administer medically important antibiotics to chickens, a practice that is commonplace, even when animals are healthy.

Big Money Dominates Chicago Mayoral Election

Thicker wallets give big donors an outsized voice in this year’s mayoral election, according to a new report released by Illinois PIRG Education Fund one week before Election Day. Contributions greater than $1,000 account for more than 86% of the money contributed to the five Chicago mayoral candidates, while less than 2% of the money contributed comes from contributions of less than $150.

New Report Ranks Chicago 14th Among 70 Major American Cities For High-Tech Transportation Options

A new report from Illinois PIRG Education Fund and Frontier Group ranks American cities on how many new technology-enabled services and tools they have to meet transportation needs. It finds that Chicago ranks 14th among the nation’s 70 largest cities.
